What are your diagnoses?
Persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS, formally known as post-concussion syndrome), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), major depressive disorder
How did you get your concussion?
Tennis ball to the right temple. October 28, 2016.
Can you work?
I started working remotely a couple hours a week in January of 2025! I’m hoping to work my way up to part-time hours. Read more here.
How do you keep going?
The hope I have in Jesus and the promise that one day “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain,” (Rev. 21:4).
Why did you launch a blog?
I’ve been a writer since age 10 and life circumstances plus desire have given me the inclination and time to start a blog. I have struggled so much in the past years and have often felt I was the only person in my sinking ship. My desire is to enourage every person who stumbles upon my blog, no matter where they are emotionally, physically or even spiritually.
What are The Concussion Diaries?
These blog posts serve as a chronicle of my concussed shenanigans. I did not journal consistently the first few years post concussion due to brain/vision issues so a lot of the early events are from memory. However, they are 100% factual, written from the sassy, reflective and often humorous dialogue that goes on in my head.
Why is there an audio file in every post?
Short answer: accessibility for the blind and vision impaired. Long answer: to this day I have trouble reading, especially on screens. There was a time where I had Siri read me articles but eventually stopped because I found her inability to comprehend basic sentence structure maddening. Of course I asked other people to read to me but that got old real fast. I remember wishing I could listen to these writers and bloggers read their articles to me like they would a podcast or Audible book. Disclaimer: the audio files are recorded on my phone and will remain unedited until I have the time and energy for a more professional setup.
Who does your artwork?
I commissioned Side x Side Studio to create my new banner, The Concussion Diaries, and profile art. I make everything else using Canva or Procreate.
